Cool Kids Get Schooled with Age
Kids deemed cool in early adolescence have a
poor chance to keep that status by their early 20s, because their behavior gets
old.
Get schooled=fail
Erika Beras reports
Here’s something you might have figured
out at your high school reunion or by Facebook-stalking透過臉書追蹤某人 your old classmates: being one of the cool kids does not
necessarily mean
being cool for
And now, a study in the journalChild Development confirms that suspicion.
Researchers followed ethnically and racially diverse suburban郊區 and urban城市 kids from early adolescence十三歲左右的青少年 to early adulthood十八歲左右的青少年. The kids who were deemed cool at a young age were high-status individuals享有崇高地位的個體 with romantic relationships who broke rules and laws勇於挑戰或是打破規則與法條束縛.
But they were no longer viewed that way by peers by the time they were in their early 20’s. The pseudomature偽成熟 behavior that seemed so admirable at a young age lost cachet引申為失去魅力(cachet=distinctiveness)as the other kids gained actual maturity.
Meanwhile, as the young James Deans and Miley Cyruses aged they had to engage in ever-riskier永遠/持續危險的 behavior to keep thinking of themselves as cool.
By their early twenties, they were more likely to have drug and alcohol problems, relationship issues and criminal involvement. Turns out being a cool kid has a really short shelf life賞味期限很短(時間不長).
hi Chloe,
回覆刪除the word "cache" sounds more like "cachet" in the recording
but "lose cache" seems to be an idiom or something
it just feels a little confusing....
Thanks for the reminder!
I downloaded the transcript from the website and the original script misspelled the word and I made two revisions as a result. I uploaded the first version without the full explanation. My bad. Please check the updated version of the text and the download link! This should clear up whatever the confusion you might have...
