對於從來沒有透過NPR廣播練習過聽力的同學,在你開始練習前,請記得採用下列步驟:

1.先下載聲音檔。

2.播放聲音檔,第一遍可以直接聽,什麼都不看,測試一下自己聽得懂多少。

3.第二次聽的時候,記得邊聽邊對著解析版閱讀。耳朵聽到什麼地方,眼睛也要跟到。

4.第三次聽的時候,請留意相關的單字或是特別的說法與措詞

5.第四次聽的時候,請邊聽邊跟述。就是對方念一句,你也跟著念不用特別刻意,跟不上的地方就算了,同一個地方多聽幾次也可以。

6.第五次聽的時候,請將transcript英文稿放一邊,看看這次到底聽懂多少,可以跟第一次做個比較。

聽完第五次之後,請花點時間好好研讀稿子把單字或是不懂的地方背起來。可以找個小筆記本,將單字或是新學到的字詞抄下來,以便整理或是將來再研讀用。

這時候你可以休息一下了。今天的聽力訓練到此結束。

記得第二天再播放同一個聲音檔再聽一次,這次記得只聽不看稿,解此測試一下這回聽懂多少。

Forget Random Matches: Find A Dorm Mate Online

SIEGEL: Most college-bound要上大學的 young people spend several months hovering by為了等待而盤旋或停留 the mailbox. They're waiting for not one, but two letters. The first, obviously, tells them they got into the school of their choice - or didn't. The second letter, which has been going out in recent weeks, says whom they'll be rooming with.

But as Shannon Mullen reports, some schools are trying a new method, letting kids choose their own roommates online.

SHANNON MULLEN: This fall, 17-year-old Jamella Connell will be a freshman at Mount Ida College, a small liberal arts school文理學院near Boston. She's filling out a roommate selection form that asks how often she does laundry洗衣服, whether she minds overnight guest帶人回來過夜.
Ms. JAMELLA CONNELL: How do you feel about sharing stuff? Sharing is caring. I mean, we learned this when we were five.

MULLEN: Instead of mailing in her answers, Connell has an online profile網路個人資料 with her picture - like a Facebook page. And instead of the school choosing a random隨機 roommate for her, she can pick one herself.

Ms. CONNELL: I just clicked search and I found someone named Ashley. Let's see her profile basics: She's 18, clean. Oh, she likes to study in the library. Nice. Someone I can get along with already.

MULLEN: A growing number of colleges and universities are offering Web-based以網路為主的 programs課程 that let students pick their own roommates. Two dozen schools, including Rutgers, Tulane, Sacred Heart and Mount Ida College use a service called RoommateClick. Mount Ida's Residence Life Director Laura DeVeau says it saves loads of paperwork. She calls it Facebook with a purpose.

Ms. LAURA DEVEAU (Residence Life Director, Mount Ida College): I love Facebook, I'm not going to lie. Friend me, that's cool. What this does is it narrows down縮小 the functionality of Facebook in terms of the networking社交網絡. For this particular generation, they feel more comfortable because they've connected online.

Sophomores Warren Zimmer and Dan Fissel bonded on RoommateClick over their love of video games when Mount Ida first offered the service last year. Zimmer says it made moving in less awkward尷尬.

Mr. WARREN ZIMMER: The first week really set the tone for定調 the rest of the year. That's how it was going to be, and it worked out great.

Mr. DAN FISSEL: And the first week there wasn't too much laundry, so he didn't really know that I'm not as moderately clean算是愛乾淨(moderately有適當或是中切的意思) as I said.

Mr. ZIMMER: I also learned that I wasn't as clean as I thought I was.

Mr. FISSEL: It was a pretty good match, yeah.

MULLEN: Zimmer and Fissel have heard of a few bad matches亂配(不好的搭檔), but they say most of their friends have had positive outcomes.With RoommateClick, schools can customize量身訂做 the site's features to try to curb 約束/抑制misuse. Rutgers doesn't let students post profile pictures, to prevent discrimination防止歧視 based on factors like race or sexual orientation性傾向(同性戀、異性戀或是雙性戀等). And RoommateClick's parent company, Lifetopia, monitors students' profiles for offensive會冒犯到人的 material. But VP of sales Bill Schneider says there's no foolproof非常簡單或是安全的 way to prevent discrimination.

Mr. BILL SCHNEIDER (Vice President of Sales, Lifetopia): Everybody knows that they will go to Facebook and they will find their potential roommate - what they look like - and maybe get into more depth than our site would serve them.

MULLEN: At Mount Ida College, Laura DeVeau's concern was that students who self-select might miss out on失去了 something formative讓人(的性格或是特質)得以發展的機會. When she was in college, she was randomly matched with a girl from Texas.

Ms. DEVEAU: She put on mascara loud塗睫毛膏的時候非常吵. I've never seen a person in my life who could be so loud. And there were times where I learned through that experience how to speak up for為自己的權益發聲 myself.

MULLEN: But DeVeau says kids who pair up湊做堆 online still have to learn how to live together in person. Some students don't want to choose their own roommates. DeVeau matches them the old-fashioned way傳統的方式, but she warns it won't be totally random. She likes to put Red Sox 紅襪隊and Yankees fans洋基隊的粉絲 in the same room.

CHLOE老師你好:我想請問一下,目前聽力來講,我覺得是我聽說讀寫能力中較強的部份,我想往"口說"的部分加強,請問一下老師有什麼step by step的方法.這裡有幾個問題想請教老師:第一,每個人都有自己不同的方法,每個方法不一定適用所有人,我從以前就想要"think in English"但是每次"說"的時候還是會不自覺會在腦中出現中文後,在"翻"成英文.每當想糾正成英式想法(我的方法是不去想中文,直接想目前要說的情境,用英文來表達)但往往說出來的英文都很簡單,我不是想刻意用"高深"的英文,但是我只是想更厲害,請問老師如何解決?從這中間衍伸到我另一個目前正在做的事情:那就是我每天都有閱讀老師發的"中文成語諺語"的2012版本,這讓我想到我應該是以"中文對照英文",譬如說:我在背bring down the house時,要以中文博得滿堂喝采來聯想記憶,還是用圖像,因為一個人的演講太好了,屋頂都塌了下來(我常常在記老師的成語中用圖像聯想,因為我覺得這樣比較接近think in english,及再用這個片語的時候會說出這樣的英文,因為平常說話很少會用成語來講)不知道老師的看法如何?

    原來你是聯合報口譯課程的學生。

    你說的圖像聯想是非常有用的語言提示,我很鼓勵你用這種創意方式來刺激自己用英文思考。不過我也了解不是每個字詞都能靠聯想力,所以我還有下面這些建議(這些也是我平日保持實力的方式)

    1. 聽長一點的英文演講或是辯論型的廣播或是電視節目(最好沒有中文字幕,但是可以取得transcript)
    這類型的素材網路可能比較多。去TED論壇可以聽到很多類似的東西。時代雜誌的網站TIME也有Video可以看。

    2. 維持聽一段內容,自己用英文複述的方式來強化理解度。也可以閱讀一篇文章,然後試著用英文說明分析,這些都是非常好的練習

    總之多聽多閱讀,持之以恆就能讓聽力與口說精進。我相信你可以的。加油並且歡迎你多上部落格來看新的東西。

  4. 謝謝老師的鼓勵! 跟著老師的部落格學英文,已經快要半年. 以前練聽力都是只要聽得懂大概就好(根本是錯誤方法). 後來學到老師"精聽"的方法, 不儘聽力進步,口語也進步了.

  5. 沒錯啊Amy, 精聽是關鍵。大多數人聽英文都沒有精聽,充其量就是做到有聽而已。一定要聽懂且聽熟,才能消化吸收。

  6. 老師你好,我是一個升大三的學生,日前因為和四個外國學生一起當志工,受他們的吸引,使我燃起了以後到美國走走的念頭,也很想加強英文。
    我高三時考過多益695,但上大學後英文一直退步.. 我的目標是半年後,能和外國人正常且流暢的對話,不只聊一些非常簡單的東西。
    我是在google查詢加強英文聽力路過此網站的,也實際下載了mp3和解析板實際演練。 第一次聽大概聽懂七成。 想請問老師,若其他文章沒有解析版怎麼辦? 該如何藉由文章練閱讀能力和字彙能力? 謝謝!

    你要先拿有聲音檔跟文字檔案的東西一起練習。聽跟說不分家,邊聽邊消化,然後recite複誦,確保每個字都要聽懂。可以下載我部落格的英語聽力短篇跟NPR還有Scientific American.重點是聽到熟了之後,試著用英文再說一次。

    泛聽的意思是教材的題材要多元,要廣。精聽則是要聽到爛熟,確定自己真的全都聽懂聽熟了。大多人在練習聽力的時候,沒有聽懂也沒有聽熟,最多做到「有聽」而已。這樣聽力難以進步。所有的進階技巧關鍵都在打好基礎,基礎就是耐性與持續兩件事情。你可以從今天起每天花一小時練聽力,但是教材要聽到爛熟才能再換新的,所以可能一篇文章要反覆聽十遍二十遍都有可能。但是這樣是真正確保能消化吸收且進步的方式。不是聽得多而已,要真的聽進心裡去。

    我的部落格有很多題材,多下載就能做到泛聽,泛聽不難,精聽比較需要點功夫,重點是持續與耐性,要記得這兩個關鍵字。
