Week 26

1. amnesty (n) 特赦/大赦	We declare an amnesty for political prisoners and we want to invite all the expatriates to come home.
2. expatriate (n) 放棄國籍移居國外的/流放的	The musician had been living abroad for over twenty years before his death. He was a voluntary expatriate.
3. exonerate (v.) 使免受指控或是證明…無罪	When the jury陪審團 began to deliberate商議, they were prepared to exonerate the culprit罪犯.
4. fiat (n.) 法令	One cannot govern by fiat, the sedentary習慣坐著不動的(指的是喜歡待在辦公室裡面的) mayor quickly learned; it is necessary to get out and meet the citizens if you want their cooperation.
5. mendacious (adj.) 虛偽不實的	The businessman’s mendacious claims let to a myriad of為數眾多的 law suits訴訟.
6. parsimonious (adj.) 過分節儉的/吝嗇的	We dated very briefly. I eventually decided to break up with him because I wasn’t too impressed with his parsimonious attitude.
7. pecuniary (adj.) 金錢的	My father believes that pecuniary matters are best handled by women.
8. dismantle (v.) 去掉覆蓋物，通常指拆除或是拆解房屋或是物品	I plan to dismantle my computer tomorrow and clean all the components組成物.
9. sumptuous (adj.) 奢華的	The sumptuous feast last night was prepared with impeccable完美無瑕的 care.
10. underwrite (v) 簽署/認購/表達同意	After a long and tedious 冗長的negotiation, our client finally agreed to underwrite the cost of our trip to New York.
